Bicycling Through Paradise @ Roads Rivers & Trails (Lecture + Ride)

4:00PM, Saturday May 14th - Add to Calendar
Roads Rivers and Trails
Come learn about historical cycling tours in the Cincinnati region with Kathleen Smythe and Chris Hanlin, authors of Bicycling Through Paradise. The 30-40 minute presentation will start at noon and be followed by a book signing and an optional bike ride.
The bike ride will be led by Joe Humpert, head of Queen City Bike. The ride will be on and off the Little Miami Scenic Trail and will last approximately two hours including stops. Total distance is a little over ten miles. Bring a bike, helmet, water, snacks, and a bike lock. We will ride at a conversational pace. Cyclists must be comfortable riding on the roadway. We will see the 1804 Christian Waldschmidt House, one of the finest early homesteads in the Little Miami Valley. We will also visit the historic Evergreen Cemetery in Miamiville. There we will see the unusual tombstone of Charlie Henry Rich, who dealt aces and eights to Wild Bill Hickok in Deadwood in 1876, moments before Hickok was shot to death. We’ll discuss other historic destinations on the trail, and we’ll talk about some of the past visionaries who have reimagined and transformed the Little Miami Valley.
