12:30PM, Saturday August 3rd - Add to Calendar
Community Happens Here, 6238 Montgomery Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45213, USA
Our ride this Saturday, Aug 3 @ 8:30 AM is on the same day as the annual Ridge Day celebration. Let’s make the most of our wonderful Pleasant Ridge! We’ll stay close to home and ramble along the ridgetop, exploring peaceful and beautiful streets in Pleasant Ridge, as well as those nearby in Kennedy Heights, Silverton, and Golf Manor. To help us with planning and quick check-ins, please PRE-REGISTER HERE 🙌 You can also register on-site if preferred. The ride is FREE! At Queen City Bike, creating a caring community is a core value. Your registration enables us to reach you and your important people if needed, and also provide you with $10K of supplemental medical insurance. We've got you covered so you can focus on the bike joy! ———— Route preview: RPS_065 - Sat Short - Ridgetop Ramble As an added bonus of Queen City Bike’s sponsorship of this event, you can navigate this route for free on the Ride with GPS app at any time—both during the event and after! ———— Departure Time: 8:30am - Please plan to arrive early so we can all leave in a punctual fashion - We will meet in front of Community Happens Here - Ride leaders will be there by 8:15am to answer any questions Distance: 15 miles Difficulty: - Mid-level Beginners and above - All riders should be comfortable with basic bike-handling and traffic skills - Route is not suitable for young children, but may be a good match for proficient teenagers (per discretion of parents) Terrain: - Predominantly flat to rolling Climbs (steeper than +4% grade): - Tulane/Montgomery (~0.3 mi; max ~4.5% grade) - Pandora (~0.3 mi; max ~4% grade) Descents (steeper than neg 4% grade): - Robison (~0.3 mi; max -5.5% grade) Traffic stress: - >90% of this ride will be on low-traffic streets Higher-stress areas: - This route is almost entirely on quiet streets (or streets with bike lanes). HOWEVER, there will be three situations where we will turn right onto a busier non-bike-lane street (Ridge or Losantiville), roll downhill for half a block, and then turn left. We will be able to choose our moment to turn onto the busier street, we will be carrying good speed, and we will take the lane to control traffic behind us. Taken together, this provides for a manageable situation, but I do want to mention just so everyone is aware of this aspect of the route. Post-ride: - If we finish at the appropriate time, let's roll over to the Ridge Day Fun Run to cheer on the runners (start time = 10;30am). Afterward, we can gather at either Nine Giant or Cafe Alma depending on timing and interest. - We should be done with the ride by about 10:00-10:15am ———— Safety Notes: - Helmets required - Bike must be in good working condition. Please contact me if you have any questions! Weather Notes: - In the event of adverse weather, I will post an update on the day of the ride—at or before 7:30am - Updates will be shared on the Facebook event page, and also via the Ride Pleasant Streets Google Group - No message means the ride is still on! Parking: - Community Happens Here asks that if at all possible, we do NOT use their parking lot during our events. - Abundant FREE parking is located at the Pleasant Ridge Community Parking Lot, behind the Walgreens at 6204 Montgomery Road. This is ONE block from Community Happens Here. ———— Queen City Bike is grateful to Pleasant Streets and Community Happens Here for helping to make this bike event possible.
