Ride Pleasant Streets - Saturday Short Edition

6:00PM, Saturday August 5th - Add to Calendar
Community Happens Here, 6238 Montgomery Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45213, USA
Our ride this Saturday, Aug 5 @ 2:00 PM is on the same day as the annual Ridge Day & Night celebration. Let’s make the most of our wonderful Pleasant Ridge! We’ll stay close to home and ramble along the ridgetop, exploring peaceful and beautiful streets in Pleasant Ridge, as well as those nearby in Kennedy Heights, Silverton, and Golf Manor. *** Note the 2:00 PM start time—moved an hour earlier than usual to coordinate better with the Ridge Day party *** PLEASE PRE-REGISTER HERE (25 riders max) after reading the event details. Pre-registration helps us with safe and smooth ride management, so please do this if you can. However, don’t avoid coming just because your schedule was uncertain. You can register on-site if you need to—just be extra sure to arrive 10-15 minutes early. ———— Route preview: RPS_041 - Sat Short - Ridge Day Ridgetop Ramble As an added bonus of Queen City Bike’s sponsorship of this event, you can navigate this route for free on the Ride with GPS app at any time—both during the event and after! ———— Departure Time: 2:00pm - Please plan to arrive early so we can all leave in a punctual fashion - We will meet in front of Community Happens Here - Ride leaders will be there by 1:45pm to answer any questions Distance: 14.7 miles Difficulty: - Mid-level Beginners and above - All riders should be comfortable with basic bike-handling and traffic skills - Route is not suitable for young children, but may be a good match for proficient teenagers (per discretion of parents) Terrain: - Predominantly flat to rolling Climbs (steeper than +4% grade): - Tulane/Montgomery (~0.3 mi; max ~4.5% grade) - Pandora (~0.3 mi; max ~4% grade) Descents (steeper than neg 4% grade): - Robison (~0.3 mi; max -5.5% grade) Traffic stress: - >90% of this ride will be on low-traffic streets Higher-stress areas: - This route is almost entirely on quiet streets (or streets with bike lanes). HOWEVER, there will be three situations where we will turn right onto a busier non-bike-lane street (Ridge or Losantiville), roll downhill for half a block, and then turn left. We will be able to choose our moment to turn onto the busier street, we will be carrying good speed, and we will take the lane to control traffic behind us. Taken together, this provides for a manageable situation, but I do want to mention just so everyone is aware of this aspect of the route. Post-ride: We will finish our ride at the site of the Ridge Day festivities! This will be a fun opportunity to socialize after the ride, while also taking in the goodness of Pleasant Ridge’s annual celebration! More details here: Ridge Day & Night - We should be done with the ride by about 4:00pm. ———— Safety Notes: - Helmets required - Bike must be in good working condition. Please contact me if you have any questions! Weather Notes: - In the event of adverse weather, I will post an update on the day of the ride—at or before 1pm - Updates will be shared on the Facebook event page, and also via the Ride Pleasant Streets Google Group - No message means the ride is still on! Parking: - Community Happens Here asks that if at all possible, we do NOT use their parking lot during our events. - Abundant FREE parking is located at the Pleasant Ridge Community Parking Lot, behind the Walgreens at 6204 Montgomery Road. This is ONE block from Community Happens Here. ———— Queen City Bike is grateful to Pleasant Streets and Community Happens Here for helping to make this bike event possible.
