FAQs
What is Cranksgiving? Cranksgiving is a national event that occurs in over 100 cities across the United States and Canada. It combines the delight of biking and urban exploration with the joy of giving. Participants stop at one or more grocery stores during their ride to pick up items for charity.
What is the route? Riders on the
Scavenger Hunt make up their own route, based on urban knowledge and the list of checkpoints! For the
Casual Ride, experienced leaders will guide you on a
9 mile route that includes numerous points of interest, as well as the opportunity to pick up donation items at a local grocery store.
Is there an entry fee? Cranksgiving is free! Come join us for the fun of urban exploration and riding. Purchase of donation drive items is optional, but a big part of the meaning of the event. A typical spending range is $15-20, but every amount helps! We'd rather you come and donate $2 than not come at all. :)
Where can I park? For those who are driving, there is typically plenty of parking at
Wooden Cask. If needed, an overflow lot is also available on Sundays at National Band & Tag Company. This lot is one block south of Wooden Caskāon the
south side of 7th Street, in between York St and Orchard St.
What items are needed for the donation drive? Cranksgiving Cincinnati 2024 is gathering items to donate to
Brighton Center and
Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank/COVERD.
Here are suggestions from each charity
(we will hand out these lists at the event for easy reference):
- Brighton Center Holiday Meals - Mashed potatoes, Stuffing, Canned corn, Canned green beans, Gravy, Jiffy Cornbread
- Brighton Center Wishlist - These items help all year long
- Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank - You guessed itā¦ diapers! š£ Other items for COVERD are also welcome too.
Is the Scavenger Hunt a race? Sort ofā¦ it's a vibrant challenge to test your local knowledge of landmarks and bike routing. Points are awarded for checkpoints + donations. That said, Cranksgiving at heart is about having a good time together and enjoying our local streets and culture. Safe riding, obeying the rules of the road, being considerate to all other road and path usersāthese are all expectations of this event.
How do the points and scoring work? Scavenger Hunt riders need to bring a camera or camera phone to officially record checkpoints and score points. At each checkpoint, take a photo WITH yourself/your team included in the view. When you make grocery stops to purchase donation items, keep your receipts! Points and winners will be determined at the afterparty, based on a combination of checkpoints and value of donated items.
What happens if my bike breaks down? We will provide a phone number to call in the event you need a volunteer to scoop you up with their SAG vehicle. There will also be experienced mechanics on hand BEFORE the ride to provide FREE safety checks, tire inflation, and minor adjustments.
When do Scavenger Hunt riders get to see the manifest? The list of checkpoints will be shared to all Scavenger Hunt riders at the same time, after everyone is checked in and after the opening remarks. Checkpoints will be a mix of landmarks around northern Kentucky and the urban basin, along with one or more grocery stops to pick up items for the donation drive.
How long does the Scavenger Hunt last? After everyone has a copy of the manifest, riders will have
two hours to complete the Scavenger Hunt. This ensures that everyone can be back in time to enjoy the afterparty. Remember, this is two hours of safely riding the streets and challenging your local knowledge and navigation skills. It is not meant to be a pell-mell race that puts yourself or other people at risk.
Can I do the Scavenger Hunt with a team? Yes, pleaseā¦ teams are encouraged! Recruit your friends in advance, or we will help team you up with other riders on the day of.
What if I want to bring a friend who doesn't have a bike? Cincy Red Bike to the rescue! There is a Red Bike station at 707 Monmouthā
less than 2 blocks from our event HQ at Wooden Cask Brewing Company. Cincy Red Bike will have the station stocked and ready to roll!
