E-bike riders unite! The newly formed <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/3503028853358739" target="_blank">Tristate Ebike Squad</a> is a community friend of Queen City Bike, and they are hosting their first event! This is a social group for e-bike riders in Greater Cincinnati, with the purpose of connecting riders and planning group rides.

From the organizers: 

Our first ride! Going to make this a regular group ride. Will be heading up the little Miami to Loveland, where we will stop for coffee and breakfast at Mile 42 then head back down.

No drop, social speed ride (10-12 mph). Super chill and relaxed route to enjoy on a Sunday Morning.

If it’s Sunday, it must be Open Shop! 
- MoBo open Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- We’re setting up repair stands inside & outside 
- Pandemic protocols are evolving, but please bring your mask 
- First-come, first-served

Every Monday is Kids Day at MoBo Bicycle Co-op in Northside! Kids can come learn to fix their bikes and enjoy bike-related programming all year long. Each participant will receive a free used bike and learn how to fix and maintain it! This event is geared towards people aged 5-16.

The Urban Basin Bicycle Club is for those bicyclists interested in riding in the Urban Basin, such as downtown, OTR, Northern Kentucky and the Mill Creek Valley, exploring sights and scenery along the way. 

Some rides are themed (e.g. breweries, art deco etc.) and others are just rambling. Then we will rotate among various bars for a “debrief.” Sound good?

Join us on Saturday, Oct 7 @ 3:00 PM as we make our way from Pleasant Ridge to beautiful Ault Park. It's a special time of year to enjoy trees and nature and the changing fall colors. We will also visit the site of the historic Cincinnati Observatory as an added treat.

This ride features an out-and-back on Montgomery and Lester Roads, combined with low-stress streets in Norwood and a segment of the Wasson Way. The middle of our route takes us on a loop through Mt. Lookout—moderately hilly, but also where we are rewarded with the beauty of Ault Park and the Cincinnati Observatory.

- Please plan to arrive early so we can all leave in a punctual fashion

- Ride leaders will be there by 2:45pm to answer any questions

Distance: 15 miles

Difficulty:
- Mid-level Beginners and above
- All riders should be comfortable with basic bike-handling and traffic skills
- Route is not suitable for young children, but may be a good match for proficient teenagers (per discretion of parents)
- We will regroup as needed throughout the ride

Terrain:
The route is predominantly rolling, but has fewer flat stretches and more harder climbs than our typical “Sat Short” events. 

Climbs (steeper than +4% grade):
- Observatory Ave. (~0.7 mi; 4-5% grade) as we head out of Ault Park
- Lester Avenue (~1 mi; 4-5% grade). On our way back to Pleasant Ridge.
- A handful of smaller climbs are also scattered amidst our loop through Mt. Lookout.

Descents (steeper than neg 4% grade):
- Lester Road (~1.2 mi; max neg 4-5% grade) as we head out of Pleasant Ridge
- Observatory Drive (max neg 6.5% grade) as we sweep out of Ault Park
- Both of these are moderate descents that are great for building your confidence!

Traffic stress:
- >90% of this ride will be on low-traffic streets

Higher-stress areas:
- The busiest area will be riding through the center of Pleasant Ridge (on Montgomery). The multiple traffic lights, the lower traffic volume on Saturday afternoons, and our presence as a group will all help to reduce the stress in this section.
- The second busiest area will be rolling down Erie Ave. toward Marburg Ave. We will be carrying good speed in this section, however, so not many cars will need to pass us. When we arrive at Erie and Marburg, we will do a special turn-around loop that will reduce stress at this often-busy junction. 

Post-ride:
- Let’s gather at <a href="https://www.ninegiant.com/brewpub" target="_blank">Nine Giant</a> after the ride!
- We should be done with the ride by about 5:30pm.

Ride Pleasant Streets - Saturday Short Edition

Spend the afternoon with the Great Parks Rangers and learn all about traffic safety!

At Safety Town, kids ages 4–12 will learn about traffic safety through fun activities including education stations highlighting vehicle and pedestrian safety.

Kids can test their safety skills on the driving course, and will receive a prize when completing all of the activities!

- This route presents an enjoyable mix of rolling terrain and long, gentle descents; a few climbs on the more challenging side; and a flat stretch in the middle as we pedal along the Ohio River.

Climbs (steeper than +4% grade):
- Schiller Street + Milton Street - Heading up Prospect Hill (~0.5 mi; max 9% grade)
- Slack Street to the top of Prospect Hill! (~0.2 mi; max ~6% grade).
- Montgomery Road as we head back to Pleasant Ridge (~0.6 mi; max ~4.5-5% grade).

Descents (steeper than neg 4% grade):
- Lester Road (~1.2 mi; max neg 4-5% grade) as we head out of Pleasant Ridge
- Delta (~1.4 mi; max neg ~4% grade)
- Gilman + McGregor (~0.5mi; max neg ~5.5% grade)

Traffic stress:
- ~85% of this ride will be on low-traffic streets and multi-use paths

Higher-stress areas:
- The busiest area will be heading north on Elm Street after we turn off the Ohio River Trail. Although this is full-on urban riding, this tends to be more manageable than one might expect because the multiple stop lights keep traffic speeds down.
- The second busiest area will be riding through the center of Pleasant Ridge (on Montgomery). The multiple traffic lights, the lower traffic volume on weekends, and our presence as a group will all help to reduce the stress in this section.
- The remaining roads that may have moderate traffic volume (Delta, Riverside Drive, Delta, and Montgomery back toward Pleasant Ridge) all have bike lanes in the sections we will be riding on. This makes a big difference in drivers respecting our space and giving us adequate room.

Post-ride:
- Let’s gather at <a href="https://www.ninegiant.com/brewpub" target="_blank">Nine Giant</a> after the ride!
- We should be done with the ride by about 6:00pm.

A public comment period will be provided during this meeting.
