Queers with Gears is a ride for action to recognize, empower, and celebrate the Queer+ community and our allies in Northern Kentucky & the Queen City. All are welcome and it is FREE to join!

* Ride to the ride! (Parking is available, but limited)
* Don't have a bike? It's cool...The Red Bike stations near Roebling will be stocked.
* If you haven’t ridden your bike in a while, please try to arrive early for a quick safety check (tire air, etc.). Mechanics from Queen City Bike will be on hand to address minor issues and make sure we're all rolling safely!
* Express yourself …Do you, be you, and let everyone know by showing your true colors. All fashion & forms of expression are encouraged.

Queers with Gears - Pride Ride for Action

Join us on Saturday, June 3 @ 3:00 PM for a cozy, close-to-home route that takes us up to beautiful Bechtold Park! This is one of the most gentle routes in our collection, with ZERO climbs over a 4% grade. How often do we get to say that for a ride that starts in the Ridge?!!

Note: Pre-registration helps us with safe and smooth ride management, so please do this if you can. However, don’t avoid coming just because your schedule was uncertain. You can register on-site if you need to—just be extra sure to arrive 10-15 minutes early.

Departure Time: 3:00pm
- Please plan to arrive early so we can all leave in a punctual fashion
- We will meet in front of Community Happens Here
- Ride leaders will be there by 2:45pm to answer any questions

Distance: 11.4 miles

Difficulty:
- Mid-level Beginners and above
- All riders should be comfortable with basic bike-handling and traffic skills
- Route is not suitable for young children, but may be a good match for proficient teenagers (per discretion of parents)
- We will regroup as needed throughout the ride

Terrain:
- Predominantly flat to rolling

Climbs (steeper than +4% grade):
- There are no climbs over 4% on this route… a rarity for Pleasant Ridge! The steepest uphill section is about a 3.4% grade.

Descents (steeper than neg 4% grade):
- There are no descents over 4%… another rarity for Pleasant Ridge! This is a very friendly route for people who are still getting used to hills.

Traffic stress:
- ~95% of this ride will be on low-traffic streets

Higher-stress areas:
- The busiest area will be riding between Pleasant Ridge and Silverton on Montgomery Road. Except for ~3 blocks, all of this stretch will be in the bike lane.

Post-ride:
- Spontaneous post-ride plans are welcome!
- We should be done with the ride by about 5:00pm.

Every Monday is Kids Day at MoBo Bicycle Co-op in Northside! 

Kids can come learn to fix their bikes and enjoy bike-related programming all year long. Kids will sign up for a free annual youth membership, which includes *one free used bike a year* to learn to fix and maintain. Members can then come to the co-op year-round to repair their bikes, learn mechanical skills, and help other kids learn to use tools.

**Do it yourself:** MoBo is not a "free bike giveaway," but a space for youth to repair and reuse secondhand bikes with the support of volunteer mechanics. 

Kids Day is first-come-first-served and we generally stop taking new projects an hour before close. If you're coming for a bike, arrive early and expect to spend at least one hour learning to fix it. Come in throughout the night with repairs and projects. Kids Day utilizes 5 workbenches, 2 tool buckets, and at least 3 mechanics.

**Youth Membership:** Sign up in-person or [online](https://www.jotform.com/form/231715389904059) or a free youth membership, which is good for the calendar year. A youth membership always includes one free used bike, along with locks, lights, and adjustable helmets as long as funding allows.

The City of Covington and Newport are preparing a joint Bicycle Transportation Plan in partnership with Tri-State Trails. We invite you to share your experience bicycling in these communities and provide feedback on the initial proposed recommendations for the plan. Two Public Open Houses will be hosted to learn more about the plan. 

Public Open House #1 - May 31, 5:00-8:00 pm at Latonia Elementary School, 3901 Huntington Ave., Covington, Kentucky

Public Open House #2 - June 6, 5:00-8:00 pm at Newport City Building, 998 Monmouth St., Newport, Kentucky

An inclusive group ride for folks and bikes of all kinds! We'll roll around the urban basin with routes that focus on calm streets, local knowledge, and building confident ridership.
8-12mph avg, conversational pace, less than 20 miles, never too much climbing. No drop, very supportive, refreshments at Wooden Cask Brewery afterward. Meet at Trailhead Coffee inside Reser Bicycle. Parking is available at the National Band and Tag lot on Seventh or Wooden Cask Brewery on York. Roll out at 6:15pm, please arrive a little early. The Urban Basin Bicycle Club is for those bicyclists interested in riding in the Urban Basin, such as downtown, OTR, Northern Kentucky and the Mill Creek Valley, exploring sights and scenery along the way. 

Some rides are themed (e.g. breweries, art deco etc.) and others are just rambling. Then we will rotate among various bars for a “debrief.” Sound good?

A weekly community bike ride for women, trans, femme, and non-binary folks! All skill levels welcome, no drop. Members take turns leading rides starting from the Serpentine Wall. Routes usually 12-18 miles.

Free safety checks and commuter consultations provided by Ride the COV and Queen City Bike.  Get your bike rolling safely and learn about more opportunities to ride!

Join us on Sunday, June 25 @ 3:00 PM as we pedal north to Summit Park—the beautifully reimagined site of the former Blue Ash Airport! This route will also introduce you to two key connection points across Ronald Reagan Highway, including a “secret” pedestrian bridge. 🕵️

Difficulty:
- Advanced Beginner and above
- Given the distance, all riders should have good basic bike fitness (or an e-bike)
- All riders should be comfortable with basic bike-handling and traffic skills
- Summit Park uses a finely crushed gravel on many of its trails. This can feel a little unsteady at first, but is very rideable on all kinds of bikes—and excellent for skill development.
- We will regroup as needed throughout the ride

Terrain:
- Predominantly flat to rolling

Climbs (steeper than +4% grade):
- Waxwing Drive (between Hunt and Eldora). The peak grade is 6.9% (one of the steeper climbs we have done so far), but the hill is relatively short (~0.2 mi) and on a quiet street. Overall effort is probably similar to climbing up Lester (which is not as steep but is longer).

Descents (steeper than neg 4% grade):
- Carpenter’s Run (~0.4 mi; max -4% grade). As we roll toward Cooper.

Traffic stress:
- >90% of this ride will be on low-traffic streets

Ride Pleasant Streets - Sunday Long Edition

Join us for a bike ride around Westwood! We will meet at Westwood Town Hall for about a 3 mile ride. Bring your own bike &amp; helmet!
This ride is welcoming and accessible to all skill levels, and children. We will be riding on the road, but safety will be a priority.
The goal of this and future rides in Westwood is to increase awareness of the need for bike infrastructure on the West side.

What time: 6PM MainStrasse Village at Goose Girl Fountain @ 6pm (Main and 6th Streets)
How long? 7-10 Miles—we’ll take it easy on the hills. 
Time required: About 1.5 Hours
Who: You and whoever you invite? It's better to ride together. 

We’ll have people there about 1/2 an hour early to do a quick safety check and pump up tires. You can always rent a Red Bike to participate too. 

Other details: 
- Helmets strongly suggested 
- We’ll be riding in a group—not experienced in this, no problem. Just follow directions that we’ll share before the ride. 
- Parking (paid) is available in the MainStrasse Village Parking lot. 
- Free Parking is available under the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge or in Theatre House’s Parking Lot. 
 
The goals of our rides are simple: 
Get people on bicycles, have fun, be safe and see Covington from 2-wheels. A couple of the rides we have planned this year, a "Photog Ride" (June) with three of the most memorable photo spots in NKY and a destination brewery ride as well (July).

Join Mayor Aftab Pureval and leaders from the CROWN Capital Campaign as Tri-State Trails breaks ground on Phase 6A of Wasson Way. This extension of the trail will run from Woodburn Ave in Evanston to Blair Ct in Avondale. The groundbreaking will take place at the future Woodburn Ave trailhead, on Woodburn Ave just south of Dana Ave.
