Our ride this Saturday, Aug 3 @ 8:30 AM is on the same day as the annual <a href="https://www.pleasantridge.org/ridgeday" target="_blank">Ridge Day</a> celebration. Let’s make the most of our wonderful Pleasant Ridge!

We’ll stay close to home and ramble along the ridgetop, exploring peaceful and beautiful streets in Pleasant Ridge, as well as those nearby in Kennedy Heights, Silverton, and Golf Manor.

- Please plan to arrive early so we can all leave in a punctual fashion
- We will meet in front of Community Happens Here
- Ride leaders will be there by 8:15am to answer any questions

Distance: 15 miles

Difficulty:
- Mid-level Beginners and above
- All riders should be comfortable with basic bike-handling and traffic skills
- Route is not suitable for young children, but may be a good match for proficient teenagers (per discretion of parents)

Terrain:
- Predominantly flat to rolling

Climbs (steeper than +4% grade):
- Tulane/Montgomery (~0.3 mi; max ~4.5% grade)
- Pandora (~0.3 mi; max ~4% grade)

Descents (steeper than neg 4% grade):
- Robison (~0.3 mi; max -5.5% grade)

Traffic stress:
- >90% of this ride will be on low-traffic streets

Higher-stress areas:
- This route is almost entirely on quiet streets (or streets with bike lanes). HOWEVER, there will be three situations where we will turn right onto a busier non-bike-lane street (Ridge or Losantiville), roll downhill for half a block, and then turn left. We will be able to choose our moment to turn onto the busier street, we will be carrying good speed, and we will take the lane to control traffic behind us. Taken together, this provides for a manageable situation, but I do want to mention just so everyone is aware of this aspect of the route.

Post-ride:
- If we finish at the appropriate time, let's roll over to the <a href="https://runsignup.com/Race/OH/Cincinnati/RidgeDayFunRun" target="_blank">Ridge Day Fun Run</a> to cheer on the runners (start time = 10;30am). Afterward, we can gather at either <a href="https://www.ninegiant.com/brewpub" target="_blank">Nine Giant</a> or <a href="https://www.cafealmacincy.com/" target="_blank">Cafe Alma</a> depending on timing and interest.
- We should be done with the ride by about 10:00-10:15am

Every Monday is Kids Day at MoBo Bicycle Co-op in Northside! Kids can come learn to fix their bikes and enjoy bike-related programming all year long. Each participant will receive a free used bike and learn how to fix and maintain it! This event is geared towards people aged 5-16.

An inclusive group ride for folks and bikes of all kinds! We'll roll around the urban basin with routes that focus on calm streets, local knowledge, and building confident ridership.
8-12mph avg, conversational pace, less than 20 miles, never too much climbing. No drop, very supportive, refreshments at Wooden Cask Brewery afterward. Meet at Trailhead Coffee inside Reser Bicycle. Parking is available at the National Band and Tag lot on Seventh or Wooden Cask Brewery on York. Roll out at 6:15pm, please arrive a little early. The Urban Basin Bicycle Club is for those bicyclists interested in riding in the Urban Basin, such as downtown, OTR, Northern Kentucky and the Mill Creek Valley, exploring sights and scenery along the way. 

Some rides are themed (e.g. breweries, art deco etc.) and others are just rambling. Then we will rotate among various bars for a “debrief.” Sound good?

The Bike Walk Kentucky Summit is a statewide conference that will connect over 400 Kentucky leaders in tourism, transportation, government, recreation and education to share ideas and learn best practices. 

Leaders and advocates from our rural and urban communities who represent all types of cyclists (recreational, commuters, mountain bikers and road cyclists), hikers, and walkers are invited to participate and contribute to the conference. Creating ongoing conversations for safer Kentucky pathways among all the stakeholders in Kentucky is a central goal of the Summit.

Join us on Saturday, Aug 17 @ 8:30 AM to experience three of Cincinnati's iconic parks by bike! Our journey will take us to Eden Park, Alms Park, and Ault Park. Along the way we will enjoy various hidden gems of streets, alleys, and fun connectors that take you off the beaten path.

This is a fairly hilly route—expect a few invigorating climbs and joy-inducing descents. 😁

Distance: 25.5 miles

Difficulty:
- Advanced Beginner and above
- All riders should be comfortable with basic bike-handling and traffic skills
- We will regroup as needed throughout the ride

Terrain:
- Predominantly rolling with one long descent, one steep descent, and a couple longer climbs.

Climbs (steeper than +4% grade):
- Art Museum Drive (~0.6 mi; max 5% grade)
- Eden Park Drive (~0.5 mi; max ~4.5-5% grade)
- Tusculum Avenue into Alms Park (~1 mi; max ~8% grade) ***This is our hardest climb! There is a bypass option to just relax at the entrance to Alms Park while we ride the loop up into the park. This will reduce the climbing load and distance of this segment by about half. 
- Tusculum Avenue from Alms Park to Saint Ursula Villa (~0.4 mi; max ~6% grade)
- Observatory Ave. (~0.7 mi; max 4-5% grade) as we head out of Ault Park
- Lester Avenue (~1 mi; max 4-5% grade). On our way back to Pleasant Ridge.

Descents (steeper than neg 4% grade):
- Montgomery Ave (~0.5 mi; max neg 5% grade). As we roll west out of Pleasant Ridge.
- Fulton Ave (~0.4 mi; max neg 5.5% grade). As we bomb down to Eden Park. Yeehah!
- Art Museum Drive (~0.6 mi; max -5% grade). On the return portion of the loop around the arts complex.
- E McMillan at Ingleside to the bottom of Collins Ave (~0.8 mi; max neg 10% grade). Our steepest descent. Everyone can take this at whatever speed they're comfortable.
- Observatory Drive (max neg 6.5% grade) as we sweep out of Ault Park

Traffic stress:
- ~90% of this ride will be on low-traffic streets and multi-use paths

Higher-stress areas:
- The busiest area will be riding through the center of Pleasant Ridge (on Montgomery). The multiple traffic lights, the lower traffic volume on weekend afternoons, and our presence as a group will all help to reduce the stress in this section.
- The second busiest area will be riding up the curvy part of Eden Park Drive toward Krohn Conservatory. If there aren't too many runners out, we'll bypass part of this by taking the multi-use path that parallels this section.

Post-ride:
- Let’s gather at <a href="https://www.ninegiant.com/brewpub" target="_blank">Nine Giant</a> after the ride!
- We should be done with the ride by about 11:30am.

We will gather at 5:30pm at Roebling Books in Covington. Free bike safety checks will be provided (tire air, chain lube, and other minor fixes), and local advocacy organizations will be there to share resources, showcase other events, and discuss opportunities for involvement in advocacy.

We’ll roll out at 6:15pm after a pre-ride talk celebrating Gloria’s life and centering our action. 

Our ride will finish before 8:00pm at one of Gloria’s favorite local businesses—Wunderbar at Lee and MLK. Everyone is welcome to join us there for the celebration of life that follows. Folks who can’t join the ride can still meet up! 

Wunderbar is a restaurant and family-friendly, so bring the whole crew! Riders wishing to return to Roebling will be provided a guide and a safe route at shuttle-style intervals.

Gloria San Miguel was an amazing friend, community activist, mom and person who was killed while riding her bike on August 20th, 2022.

We ride to remember Gloria and to demand safety for all people biking and walking.

Urban Basin Bicycle Club - 3rd Tuesdays Ride

The 2024 Tour de CROWN makes its return on Saturday, August 24th!
Presented by <a href="https://www.greatparks.org/" target="_blank"><ins>Great Parks</ins></a>, the Tour de CROWN is a ride for all abilities, featuring existing and proposed trails in the <a href="https://crowncincinnati.org/" target="_blank"><ins>CROWN's expanding biking and walking network</ins></a>. Three distance options will start and end at <a href="https://fiftywestbrew.com/" target="_blank"><ins>Fifty West Brewing Company</ins></a>, right off the Little Miami Scenic Trail. Each route will feature rest stops and rider support from <a href="https://www.reserbicycle.com/" target="_blank"><ins>Reser Bicycle Outfitters</ins></a> and Tour de CROWN volunteers.
Registration includes a post-ride burger and beer from Fifty West and the Tour de CROWN Expo along the trail. Best of all, the proceeds from this ride benefit Tri-State Trails and the advocacy work we do on behalf of our regional trail and bikeway network!
The Tour de CROWN has something for everyone; no matter your route, you will have a blast experiencing the trails.
Full CROWN 34-mile ride – 8:00 am departure: Tackle all the trails the CROWN Trail Loop offers to date. This year's route will feature a new section of the Ohio River Trail West and the Wasson Way Uptown Connector. Conquer Cincinnati's iconic hills and see the trail's progress and potential first-hand. This ride includes many on-road sections where the trail network has not yet been completed. 
Half CROWN 17.5-mile ride – 8:30 am departure: Expand your range and explore parts of the CROWN you’ve never experienced. This ride will traverse the Little Miami Scenic Trail, Lunken Airport, Ohio River Trail, Delta Avenue bikeway, Wasson Way, and Murray Path. Portions of this ride are on-road, where the trail network is not completed yet. 
Tour de CROWN 8.5-mile trail ride – 9:00 am departure: Enjoy an easy pedal on the Little Miami Scenic Trail down to Great Parks' Beechmont Bridge and back.

Come one, come all, to the Norwood Slow Roll! This ride is held every 4th Thursday and is an opportunity to see the city of Norwood from a new perspective, pass by historic landmarks, and find new and unique cut-throughs and roads less traveled.

The ride will be 8-12 miles long and "party pace". This isn't a pace group or a training ride, but a leisurely wander across under-appreciated pavement.  

We'll meet at <a href="https://www.factory52.com/"target="_blank">Factory 52</a> at 6:00pm, and plan on rolling out at 6:20pm. You can plan on being back at the parking lot by 7:30, and we invite you to stick around and enjoy a beverage. There are also a growing number of food options available at Factory 52.
